AUDREALITY

This weekend was…eventful.

It started Thursday, as usual (unless it starts on a Wednesday – or a Tuesday, for that matter ), when Chloe and I hit the town until well past the wee hours.  No wait – that was Friday.  Thursday we also went out, but I felt like going home before she wanted to leave.  The guy she was talking to gave me cab money, so I took off.  Then I was kidnapped.

See, it wasn’t as bad as it sounds – kind of like the time I was hit by a car (it just tapped my leg).  I think the guy was just horribly lonely and confused… You can’t just bring people back to your place against their will and hope they’ll hang out with you!  NOT COOL.  He had offered me a ride, and I accepted.  I know, I know, classic scenario, but screw it: I sometimes take certain calculated risks.  He was scrawny.

It was late, I was drunk, and all of the sudden we weren’t heading where I was telling him to go.  He pulled into a complex that happened to be somewhere I’m quite familiar with.  I got out and started to walk.  He followed me!  At this point, I got a friend on the phone because the guy was obviously a weirdo.  He wouldn’t go away and kept trying to put his arm around me and talk to me.  Unfortunately, my path was blocked by a never-ending train.  I turned around and started walking the other way, saw a cop car and took a look inside.  Dammit – she already had someone, but she noticed the (rather harmless seeming) dude following me and asked, “Is that man bothering you?” and I’m like, “Actually, he is.”  That’s pretty much end of story.

Just kidding!  So, I got home and passed out only to get woken up by angry Chloe mad about me ditching her!  For one thing, I didn’t ditch her.  Second, her anger was misplaced because when she did finally go home (at 3am!), her tire blew out on the freeway and she sat alone on the side of the road for 2 hours waiting for help.  THEN for some reason she had to get all 4 tires replaced…  Naturally, it was my fault.

Within a few hours, she came to her senses and we were out again.  I mentioned Friday earlier.  That was the night I decided to run the marathon.  We got home around 7am, slept a little, and then I had an orientation meeting for my job next week at 10:30am.  I had to physically hold my eyes open, yawning.  The rest of Saturday, nothing much happened… but that’s a good thing.

Sunday morning at 7am, the marathon started.  It was my first time and I had all kinds of emotions.  I hadn’t trained.  I wasn’t trying to prove anything, really – or was I?  Maybe I was.  Well, I did it.  I actually did pretty well.  I ran the 26.2 miles in 4 hours and 8 minutes.  It was awesome.  I had a blast!  My face actually hurt from smiling the whole time.  Today, my knees are pretty trashed, but if there’s no permanent damage, I’ll be doing more marathons.  Hopefully I’ll be running all over the country, and before long, world wide.  I’m tied in now with a circuit of race directors and runners that put on marathons just about everywhere you can imagine.

Stay tuned.
